Got skyrim
Not really much of an annoucement but yes, I got skyrim not for XBox360, but for PC!
Problem is... I can't play it. I thought I had the specs that I needed but apparently the sites were wrong. So, I need to know from you guys... Do I really need a new computer? Or what? What components do I need that work best? What or how much does the component(s) cost?
I'll be getting a job soon (after my birthday, so a few months away) or rather look for one at the head county office building. Usually have keep tabs and help teenagers who are looking for a job.
Anyway, I'll post the specs in a bit. Just need a little advice. Sorry I haven't been around. I feel bad about it and truth be told I missed you guys lol.

Yes yes, I know the driver sucks. Plus I have DirectX 11. The thing I want to know is really, what do I need to upgrade/buy. Do I need a brand new computer? Or can I just upgrade it? What would be cheaper? We have a computer guy in town so he might be able to help but I don't feel like bothering him. He's helped me plenty of times with all the virus attacks I had dispite not going to dangerous sites I know of. Then again I hear a lot of people getting crap from youtube and google. But maybe they are just ordinary rumors.
But if you can't help, I'll just ask on the skyrim forum.

Well you need a quad core Processor... which is probably why it won't run, apart from that I think the rest of what you have is fine

Re: Got skyrim
Can you think of one that would compatible for DirectX11?
Also the GeForce 7050, I saw that it might not even work for skyrim... I know a lot of people aren't tech savvy but I'm definately not. Well, in regards to spec checks and understanding what is compatible with what.
If it helps, you know the starting screen when it says, "Bethesda Studios Presents... Elder Scrolls: Skyrim" right? You're in the wagon being hauled off to get your head lopped off for some stupid reason?
It wasn't on low settings all the way but pretty damned close, and it took a minute and a half to get all the way through those words. Not kidding. When I turned everything, graphics, screen size, etc on low or just completely off like shadows and reflection, everything looked like clay lol.
Alduin on the word wall when loading looked like... A clay model for like game development. Was cool but really bad. And I could see the pixels of Ralof's arm. So I was just wondering if it was not only the lack of a quad-core but my graphics card/driver.

Okay, I'll be hijacking the tech speak 'cause I didn't go through two years in Millstream CTC in Computer IT not to know this stuff. I'll give it to you straight, Queenie. The graphics card is NOT up to par. You need a new graphics card ASAP if you're aiming to play Skyrim on PC. Looking at the CPU and I'm still searching for an age of when that CPU first came out, it sounds old so a new CPU MAY be needed. Until I find the information I'm looking for on the age of your CPU, I'm tossing that in on the "maybe" side of things.
If you can get me a link to what your computer is (i.e go onto the manufacture's website and find the information) I can help you in terms of upgrading your CPU and see how far up the graphics card ladder you can go as well as other upgrades that should help improve your system to make running high-end games much easier.
On a side note, what is your XBL gt? Shoot me a PM when you can if you wanna share it. c:
EDIT: Moving this topic to Tech Support
EDIT: I think I found the age of your processor and this is going on driver dates for the processor as of now. The driver dates suggest that your processor may be almost 9 years and 1 month old. I'm still digging for a definate age of your processor but that's what I got as of now.

Thank you so much lightna!
And Yeah I figured that graphics card was pretty crappy from the start. I found a couple there were around $200-250 that will be able to play skyrim with 'hopefully' no problems, maybe a rare lag or two here and there but that'd be it.
I'll PM my gamer tag now. I'm going to get Live in a week or more when we head back to town for a doctor's appointment. In total I have like 450 dollars in the bank but I don't wanna blow it all at once. Not until I have a job. Though I'm going to put college off 2-3 years or maybe 4 years having to rest from all the crap lol. So I have plenty of time. Plus my dad has already saved up.
Probably the most I'm gonna spend upgrading my computer is about $600 dollars... Well, that's my limit. But again, thanks for helping lightna, I really appreciate it.

Re: Got skyrim
Hey Lightna, it's an emachines and yes I know from rumors it's the bottom of the barrel.
We aren't rich yet not poor. Back then we just grabbed a desktop that could help me with homework and information. Now I need it for gaming and relaxation.

This is what it looks like. It's a 2010. Thing is it has different graphics cards and I think I got my computer a little before that. Not sure though. Looks exactly the same as my desktop though.

Re: Got skyrim
I didn't read everything here, I'm much to tired for all that, but I will say that the number of cores of a processor is more related to the number of processes it can run at one time, as opposed to how complex a particular process is. Which is the primary reason I bought a dual core, cause I rarely do more than 2 things at a time. It's not a huge deal but it is nice to know. And I will say that my laptop has roughly the same specs as your desktop, and I run skyrim just fine. You may need to go through the "Options" in the very first thing that pops up when you load up skyrim (before the full screen bit). I had to turn the settings down pretty low to get started. Try dropping the render distance way down, the game is trying to load way to much stuff at one time.

Yeah, everything is off or on 'low'. EVERYTHING. lol.
just means I have to pay 250-350 dollars just to upgrade my computer... So I'll either just shelve the game, ask someone to make me a gaming computer, or completely buy a new one. Or just bite the bullet, take the computer in and ask what components work with this hunk of junk.
Ugh.

Actually, I just remembered that Skyrim has an odd tendency to hold onto information it's not using, I used a memory cleanup program (aptly named Cleanmem) which really helps a ton with your virtual memory. It's free, and it made the game run infinitely smoother.

Re: Got skyrim
Doesn't work. I don't know what brand of laptop you have but it's a super laptop for sure. Like I said... Mine is an Emachines and it sucks big time. Are you positive we have almost the same stats? Because... I don't think so... It runs somewhat better but not much at all to make a difference. The voices still lag and the people look like chipped pixels lol. 1.20 - 1.4 gb were used in total while playing it, I cleaned it up, and yet it becomes worse.
Dunno if I'm using the same 'cleanmem' but it sure isn't working. I have the latest version.
EDIT: If it helps majin, Here are the online system specs/system info:

Re: Got skyrim
Actually according to those specs, you have the same ram and actually have a better processor. If it's an issue related to your drivers or graphics cards then I don't know enough about those to help out, but I'd bet you can get it so you can play it, your machine isn't actually that old. I'm going to list a variety of solutions, it's up to you whether you want to try them all out. For starters you might want to try searching your comp for skyrimprefs.ini, right click it and choose edit. Then you want to look for something that says [Display] and insert this at the bottom of that section: “iPresentInterval=0″ (I think the next section is [grass] as a word in these brackets [] signifies a group, also remove the quotation marks). That is a small step that will help, next would be to try downloading Razer Game Booster. It basically pauses most background programs so the machine can focus on Skyrim. Next you will want to look up how to disable start up programs. This will let you turn off a variety of programs that are starting themselves up without your knowledge, but you can always start them manually, and you can decide which ones to allow running at startup. These next few options are going to take a bit of dedication, you should only mess with these if you really want this fixed (not because they can damage anything, they are quite harmless, but require you to really pay attention to them and follow them in depth). Your going to have to make an account at www.skyrimnexus.com but you would probably want to anyways because that's the best place to get mods, and it's free. Then your going to want to look up these mods on it's search engine (you may also want to download the Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) to help you sort out your mods). The mods in question are ATTK Power Loader (this is one of the best solutions, but it's time consuming), Gigantic Skyrim FPS Performance Patch (this if for after you get it running, but may still help it get started). If that doesn't work then a sort of last resort is to try googling some skyrimprefs.ini tweaks, but those you need to be very very careful with. Also turn your shadows and anti-aliasing way way down, unless there is an option to turn them off.

a few things:
The Present Interval is already there, just not at the bottom, what does this mean?
There is no 'Attk Power Loader. It does not exist in Nexus files. Or anywhere for that matter, and I don't trust any other site. I barely trust Nexus.
The other stuff I'm trying but they don't seem to work. And again, I turned ALL SETTINGS down. It's got to be my driver and my video card. Without a doubt. By the way what model and brand is your laptop? Gonna get me one of those next time...
UPDATE: Yeah, nothing works. I saw on the Razer that Internet explorer takes up a lot of crap but I can't get rid of it. I hate explorer because it keeps popping up constantly for no reason. It doesn't do that anymore but the .exe files still exist but I can't get to them. For some stupid reason anyway. Probably a virus is stuck to it. Pfft... Figures, always a virus with me lol.
But yeah, can you think of a good hefty computer/desktop that will do the job? Brand, cost, etc? I'm afraid the upgrade is gonna cost more than the machine and the repairs I already have had on this thing could pay for this hunk of junk 10 times over. Any suggestions would be nice. Thanks for your help though, it's just this computer isn't up to par. I have no idea what drivers or graphics card I need. So again, any recommended brands would be nice. I"m guessing I need a super computer?

Re: Got skyrim
That's unfortunate that those things didn't work, but if the preset option is already there then you can just set it to 0. And I just looked it up and the ATTK was removed from the Nexus, can't imagine why as the author Jason2112 is still on there. My laptop is the HP Pavilion G6 Notebook PC, It's a far cry from a super computer, like I said it's specs are similar to yours and it cost me around $300. I actually compared the specs to Skyrims recommended (not minimum) requirements and settled on the cheapest laptop that met those specs.

Re: Got skyrim
Huh, that's really weird. Well, only thing to do is to maybe buy a custom computer and move all my stuff on to that one and scrap this computer. Though I need to save up for a long while before that happens.
